UMaine/Machias Upsets Knights 81-70
UMaine/Machias executed a flawless game plan against Vermont Tech on Saturday as the Clippers upended visiting Vermont Tech, 81-70. Machias shot 53% from beyond the arc (9-17) compared to Vermont Tech’s dismal 15% (3-20).
“This was one of those outings where nothing was going in,” said Coach John Dyer after the game. “We are usually very efficient from beyond the arc and highly efficient from the free throw line. Today we just couldn’t throw it in the ocean. That’s not taking anything away from Machias. Those fellows just outplayed us today—in every facet of the game.”
Vermont Tech leads the USCAA in team free throw shooting. Against Machias, however, the Knights hit only 8 of 23 foul shots (34%). Machias hit on 14 of 20.
Nick Simpson led the Knights with 27 points. Kevin Carr and Kwei General-Vanderpuije each had 12 points.
The loss slips Vermont Tech to second place in the Sunrise Conference (5-2) behind Fisher College (5-1). The Knights are 16-2 overall.
