RANDOLPH PULLS AWAY FROM WORD OF LIFE
Pottersville, NY: Vermont State University Randolph used a dominant second half to pull away from Word of Life on Thursday night, earning an 83–67 road victory and improving to 16–8 overall and 8–3 in conference play.
The game was a tale of two halves. The Word of Life Huskies jumped out to an early advantage and led 38–31 at halftime, capitalizing on extra possessions and early rhythm on offense. Randolph stayed composed, weathered the first-half push, and came out of the locker room with renewed energy on both ends of the floor.
The second half belonged to the Knights.
VTSU Randolph outscored Word of Life 52–29 after the break, turning defense into offense and controlling the tempo down the stretch. The Knights shot 46.0% from the field for the game and an efficient 82.6% from the free-throw line, while holding the Huskies to just 34.2% shooting overall.
Leading the way was Jaylon Calvin, who delivered a standout performance with 39 points and 11 rebounds, going 14-of-30 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. Calvin's scoring surge fueled the Knights' second-half run and helped create separation when it mattered most.
Will Jenkins added 11 points, while Vic Dueno filled the stat sheet with 10 points and 5 steals, setting the tone defensively. Shandon J-D Anderson contributed on the glass with 6 rebounds, and the Knights got key minutes from the bench as they tightened their grip on the game.
Defensively, Randolph forced 19 turnovers, creating scoring opportunities and limiting Word of Life's perimeter efficiency. The Knights also steadied the rebounding battle late, neutralizing the Huskies' early edge in the first half.
Word of Life was led by Xander Eason's 20 points and Dan Morales' 12, but the Huskies struggled to find consistent offense after halftime.
With the win, VTSU Randolph continues to build momentum as conference play intensifies. The Knights will look to carry that second-half energy into their next matchup as they push toward the postseason.
