Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Hampshire College 7-0
Randolph Center, VT – Freshman Phillip Hepburn (Milton, VT) recorded his first collegiate hat trick as four different Green Knights found the back of the net on Saturday in a 7-0 win over Hampshire College.
Sophomore Keegan Reed (Jacksonvile, VT) got the offense going, finding himself in a new position on the outside half. Reed converted on Senior Joaquin Currier-Cubero's (Danville, VT) cross and headed the ball past Hampshire College goalkeeper Storrs Bishop, putting Vermont Tech up 1-0.
Five minutes later the same thing happened again, only this time the goal was scored by the Colchester connection. Sophomore Tommy Couillard (Colchester, VT) crossed the ball far post and Sophomore Matthew Brien (Colchester, VT) was able to run in to head the ball to the far post making it very difficult for Bishop to make the save as the Green Knights went up 2-0.
Hepburn netted his first goal of the game in the 27th minute, when Junior Ali Alzamanan (Saudi Arabia) was able to deliver a through ball to Hepburn who was able to beat the Hampshire College defense and strike the ball into the back of the net.
Brien finished out the first half scoring his second goal of the game in the 33rd minute while Hepburn earned the assist putting Vermont Tech up 4-0 at the half.
Vermont Tech wasted no time adding to its lead in the second half. Seven minutes in to the half Couillard sent a ball forward to Alzananan who was able to deliver another cross to Hepburn. Hepburn took the ball out of the air, took one touch to the right, and took the shot hitting the far post side netting for his second goal of the game and a 5-0 Vermont Tech lead.
The Green Knights poured on two more goals near the 61st minute. Freshman Troy Girard (Hillsboro, NH) took a deep shot to score at 60:54 and 46 seconds later Hepburn converted for his third goal of the match, solidifying the conference win for Vermont Tech.
Bishop made 10 saves on the day for Hampshire College, Darian Calverley (Attleboro, MA) had 2 saves on the day earning his first shutout of the season.
Next Up : Vermont Tech will travel to Pine Manor College Tomorrow September 27, 2015 for a non-conference game with a start time at 2:00pm.
