Women's Soccer signs new goalie Ebony Cota
May 3rd, 2020. Vermont Technical College Lady Kinghts soccer program has it's first signing of the 2020 campaign. Ebony Cota, soon to be graduating from the Lake Region Rangers school and soccer program to become a Knight. Cota was a back up goalie on the varsity team her freshman year and played stopper for the JV team at the same time. Her sophmore year she took over the helm of the varsity program and never looked back. She honed her goalie skills playing for the Derby Wildcat program for 6 years. Her coach Mary Farnsworth says, "She has a solid, commanding presence in the net, and has been the anchor of the Lake Region defense for the two years I've been associated with the program. Her teammates trust and rely upon her and she can be counted on to make the big saves- thrives in the high pressure moments. She has good confidence coming off her line to challenge and decent footskills. Most importantly she loves this position and wants to be good at it." Cota was 1st team Capital League her Junior year and was voted 2nd team her Senior season. That is pretty high praise to make 1st and 2nd team in the Capital League. Coach Casey Grimes said, "We are very excited to sign such a great prospect to shore up our defense for next season. We lost two of our starting defenders last year so with this signing I believe we can build around Cota moving forward. With 2 of our returning defenders and Cota in back I think we can make the playoffs again this season." Coach Mary Farnsworth says, "She is a very coachable player. I'm really excited to hear that she is going to be continuing in college, as I do feel that she has a lot more potential that can be tapped into." I think Cota will grow at VTC this fall with our new dedicated goalie Coach John Olmstead. Welcome to the Knights program Ebony Cota!!!
