Knights Defeat NVU-Lyndon

ON Thursday night the Vermont Tech Men's Basketball team opened the Northern Vermont University Classic with a win against NVU-Lyndon 91-71. This was the first matchup between the two teams since the 2010-2011 season.

The Hornets started out the game on fire. Draining five three point shots in the first 6 minutes of the game. The Knights were able to settle into the game and replied with a 20-7 run to tie the game at 26 apiece. Going in to the half the men led the game 46-40, despite the hot shooting hornets 10 made threes.

The Knights tightened their defense to start the second half, and moved the ball well on the offensive end. After a Cyncere Watkins layup the lead ballooned to 20 points with 11 minutes to play. The home team would not give in though. Pressure defense and more three point shots brought the Knights lead to only 11 with 4 minutes to play. This would be as close as it got. As the buzzer sounded Vermont Tech finished with the win 91-71.

Head Coach Alex Tyrrell was pleased with his team performance and improvements from the opening weekend.

"We really wanted to limit our turnovers and move the ball better tonight", said Coach Tyrrell. "We did a nice job making the game easy on the offensive end by taking advantage of the extra possessions and shifting of the defense with ball movement".

The Knights were led by Drake Perry with 22 points. Eric Montanez added 20 points and 7 rebounds, while Tyrone Hilson contribute 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Callum Barnes also had a near double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

The Knights improve to 3-0 and will face NVU-Johnson in the second day of the Tournament.
