The battles with Fisher College have always been hard fought dating back to the Sunrise Conference days. Today was no different. The Knights were able to come from behind and defeat the visiting Falcons 82-78.
Playing their fourth game and seven days the Knights seemed sluggish in the first half. Some hot shooting by Brandon Rembrandt for the visiting Falcons, gave them the 15-9 lead early in the game. AS the pace of the game picked up, the Knights were able to regain control of the lead. A Jeremiah Shaw 3 pointer gave the men a 7-point advantage.
Fisher College came out the more aggressive team in the second half and quickly cut that lead in the first three minutes. They were then able to control the majority of the half, and a made free throw by Giovanni Thompson gave the Falcons a 76-66 lead with 5:25 to play. Vermont Tech rallied. Defensive stops and controlled basketball on offense, the Knights were able to go on a 13-2 run to give them a 1-point lead with 1:52 left in the game. Missed free-throw's gave Fisher an opportunity to take the lead but a block by Eric Montanez forced Fisher to foul. Tyrone Hilson went to the line and sunk 2 for 2. Brandon Rembert had a shot to tie the game but a great contest by Jeremiah Shaw forced the miss and the Knights secured the 4-point win.
After the win, Coach Tyrrell was impressed with the visiting Falcons intensity and determination.
"Fisher College played extremely hard today", said Coach Tyrrell. "They made it difficult for us to get what we wanted on the offense end and limited our scoring opportunities at the rim. I do credit our guys for their winning spirit and making plays down the stretch to come away with a tough home win against a good Fisher opponent".
Sophomore Eric Montanez led the Knights with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Dajuan Johnson broke out for 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
With the victory Vermont tech improves to 7-1. Their next match up with be with YSCC opponent, NHTI, Wednesday, November 28. Tip will be at 6 P.M.
