After defeating NVU-Lyndon 91-71 on Thursday night, the Vermont Tech Men's Basketball Team travelled back to Lyndonville to face NVU-Johnson in the second game of the NVU Kick-Off Tournament Classic. The secured the win 83-69, ending with a tournament best 2-0 record.
Coming off a close loss the College of St. Joseph's, the Badgers started the game off looking to make up for the past loss. They were the more intese team and the scored showed it. With 10 minutes left in the first half the Knights trailed by 9. With a switch in defense and more life, the men battled back to take a 1 point lead to the break, 41-40.
The second half was a back and forth affair. With 8 minutes to play Trekel Douglas took over. Back to back made 3s gave the Knights a 6 point cushion. From there they didn't look back sticking there free throws to run away with a 14 point victory.
Head Coach Alex Tyrrell was proud of his guys for there mental toughness.
"We didn't play our best game tonight", said Coach Tyrrell. "A lot of that had to do with Johnson's game plan. It took us a while to figure out offensively what to do. This group done a nice job of staying calm throughout the game, and taking over during winning time."
The Knights were led by Trekel Douglas with a big 35 point, 11 rebound, and 6 assist game. Eric Montanez also added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Tyrone Hilson and Drake Perry contributed 13 points respectively.
The Knights improve to 4-0 and will host Hampshire College Wednesday, November 14 at 8:00 p.m.
