Moose Defeat Lady Knights in the Rain
Sloppy conditions the order of the day
Senior Abbie Senesac (Williston, VT) was able to stop 16 shots on goal, but the offensive prowess of the University of Maine at Augusta was too strong as they recorded an additional 16 shots on goal to make their total number 32. Senesac made a bevy of brilliant saves, and several of the other shots by the opponent ricocheted off the crossbars. At the end of the contest, the Moose were able to tally seven balls into the back of the net in defeating the home Lady Knights by a final of 7-0.
The loss was another tough one for VTC in a season where they are struggling to find some offense. The Lady Knights only took one shot on goal, and most of the action took place on their side of the field. The main story of the day, however, may have been the weather. The field was soggy to start, and as soon as the game began the rain came and completely saturated the playing surface. The cold and wet conditions made playing extremely difficult, as the ball would stop suddenly when hitting the standing water. In addition, each side had difficulty keeping their footing on the rapidly deteriorating muddy surface. Both teams, however, persevered, and luckily there were no injuries in the game.
U Maine Augusta is now 6-5-1 and next play versus Central Maine CC on Tuesday, Ocober 4. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 1-9, and have less than one day to recover from the match. The women next play on Sunday, October 2nd at home versus the University of Maine at Machias at 11am.
